Lewisham League

The expected schedule for the cup competitions is:

Girls – 05/05/18 (confirmed - note that this is the Bank Holiday weekend)

Y5 & Y4 – 12/05/18

Finals Day – 19/05/18

The Girls Team compete in the Championship Cup. We don’t have the fixtures yet but expect 3 slightly shorter games in a group stage with a 10:00 kick-off. Semi-finals should follow on the same day. Don’t be late as matches must start on time.

Y6 played their cup competition last week. In the first two games they played very confident and assured football. Passing the ball around well and continually putting the opponents under pressure. It was the best I have seen them play and exciting games to watch. In the third game they came up against a very strong team who eventually went on to reach the final. They battled hard but it wasn’t to be. But all was not lost and the final game was both thrilling and nerve racking as a win would still have given them a chance. But with a very close game that ended in a 2-2 draw they narrowly missed going through to the semi-final from what proved to be a very competitive group. As their campaign now draws to a close, they can look back with pride at how much they have developed this year. Their individual skills, their fitness, their teamwork have all advanced beyond recognition. They have played exciting football, always with good spirit and have been a credit to the coaches, their parents and the school.

Old Saints

Last weekend I was invited to watch Blackheath Wanderers U14 competing in the semi-final of a SE London and Kent cup competition. This team featured four former All Saints’ players now in Y9 at secondary schools. It was a thrilling game where they gradually fought back from an early goal by the opposition to win 3-2 and go through to the final. It was great to see these players again and to see how they have grown, developed and matured.
